17 Cozy Crockpot Dishes for Fall
Right now I’m happily planning the fall garden. The summer garden right now is tired and struggling from all of the heat this summer. It wasn’t a complete failure, but it wasn’t our best growing season. I’m planning to plant sugar snap peas, carrots, cabbage, lots of Chinese veggies that love the cooler weather, and so much more!
It’s also almost time to pull out the crockpot and cook all of the cozy dishes! There’s nothing better than the smell of dinner cooking while I’m outside raking leaves and mulching them up to put in the garden. By the time the sun dips, dinner’s ready — no fuss, no rush. Using the crockpot is one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. Just throw in all of the ingredients, put it on whichever setting you need, and voila! No need to do anything else.
If you’re looking for crockpot recipes for fall that bring all the cozy comfort of the season to your table, I’ve gathered some favorites. From rich stews and soups to slow-cooked meats to desserts, these recipes are the kind you’ll want to keep on repeat. I’ve included a couple of beverages as added bonuses! These are all slow cooked meal though that I’ve listed. I like to put some dishes on “express” and get them done quickly when need be.
Did you know you can make desserts in a crockpot?!
Let’s dig into these scrumptious dinner ideas.
This post is all about crockpot dishes.
Table of Contents
Classic Beef Stew
Ok, a classic beef stew?! Yes, please! Sign me up.
A bowl of beef stew feels like fall in a spoon. Tender chunks of beef simmered with carrots, potatoes, and onions until everything is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Everything just comes out so tender you don’t even need a knife. The crockpot takes care of the hard work, blending all those flavors together slowly. Serve with crusty bread to soak up the gravy, and you’ve got the perfect comfort food.
Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
Throw out the Progresso soup and make your very own! It’s a dish you can even make ahead of time and either toss in the fridge or the freezer for later. There’s nothing like a creamy soup on a chilly evening. It’s another classic that needs to be mentioned. This crockpot comfort food is filling yet light, with tender chicken, earthy wild rice, carrots, and celery. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor gets. A squeeze of lemon at the end brightens it up just enough.
Butternut Squash Soup
Fall wouldn’t be complete without squash. Throughout the season, companies are advertising everything to do with butternut squash, pumpkin, and all the winter squashes. This slow cooker fall recipe turns butternut squash into a velvety, golden soup with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. It’s naturally sweet, slightly savory, and pairs beautifully with a grilled cheese sandwich. Bonus points if you grew the butternut squash yourself!
Pumpkin Chili
Fall is all about pumpkin if you love it! This one’s a fun twist on classic chili. Pumpkin puree adds richness and depth without overpowering the dish. You’ll still get the hearty beans, ground beef (or turkey), and chili spices, but with a seasonal flair. It’s one of my favorite fall crockpot meals because it tastes even better the next day.
As a tip for cooking with ground beef, I always brown it on the sauté function of the crockpot. This helps to minimize cleanup since I’m still using only one pot to do all of the cooking. Once it’s browned, I drain off some of the fatty liquid that has come out. You can totally leave it in there for more flavor, but I find it helps reduce the oiliness of the chili if some of it is discarded.
Apple Cider Pulled Pork
A twist on a pulled pork! Sweet, tangy, and savory all at once, apple cider brings pulled pork to a whole new level. Let the pork shoulder cook low and slow until it falls apart, then pile it onto rolls with slaw. If you need a homemade coleslaw recipe, I’ve got one of those too! It’s a perfect pick for Labor Day cookouts or tailgating season.
Vegetarian Lentil Stew
For something hearty and meatless, lentil stew is a winner. Protein-rich lentils mingle with carrots, potatoes, and warm spices, creating a budget-friendly dish that tastes like it simmered all day (because it did). Serve with a dollop of yogurt or a sprinkle of Parmesan for extra comfort.
Crockpot Lasagna Soup
Think of it as lasagna without the layering. Broken lasagna noodles cook right in a rich tomato sauce with ground beef and Italian seasoning. A scoop of ricotta on top makes it feel indulgent. It’s cozy, cheesy, and one of my favorite crockpot meal ideas for fall.
Taco Soup Crock Pot
If you love chili but want something with a little more zing, taco soup is the answer. This taco soup crock pot recipe is packed with ground beef (or turkey), beans, corn, and tomatoes, all simmered in a spicy broth that tastes like your favorite taco night — but in soup form. The best part? The toppings. Load your bowl with shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, tortilla chips, or a squeeze of lime. I love adding tortilla chips on top for a nice crunch!
It’s one of those fall crockpot meals that feels both fun and hearty, making it perfect for busy weeknights or a game day dinner. Plus, leftovers reheat beautifully for lunch the next day.
Spiced Apple Crisp
Yes, the crockpot can do dessert too! You can make several courses, plus dessert. Sliced apples get soft and fragrant with cinnamon and brown sugar, topped with an oat crumble that crisps up as it cooks. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate fall treat.
Crockpot Hot Chocolate Recipe
There’s nothing more comforting than wrapping your hands around a warm mug of hot chocolate, especially when it’s cold outside. Making crockpot hot chocolate is as simple as combining milk, cocoa, and a touch of sugar in the slow cooker. We’re not talking Quik mix here! We’re talking about a legit hot chocolate. It’s creamy, indulgent, and perfect for fall gatherings or holiday mornings. Keep it warm for hours and let everyone ladle out a cup, topping with whipped cream or marshmallows.
Ham Crockpot Recipe
Cooking ham in the crockpot means you get a juicy, tender result every time. And this is a dish that has to be made with the slow cooker option. It’s just so much more flavorful that way. This ham recipe is as easy as placing the ham in your slow cooker, brushing with a glaze (honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup all work beautifully), and letting it cook low and slow. It’s a no-fuss main dish perfect for family dinners or holiday tables.
Baked Beans
Sweet, smoky, and hearty, baked beans in the crockpot are a side dish that practically makes itself. Start with canned beans, add bacon, onion, brown sugar, and barbecue sauce, and let the slow cooker do the magic. The result is a rich, flavorful pot of beans that pairs well with pulled pork, ribs, or any fall cookout. Fall is the best time to do a cookout too because it’s not too hot and not too cold just yet. After the heat of the time, that little chill in the air is what makes it all the more special.
Short Ribs
When you want something decadent, short ribs in the crockpot deliver. The meat turns fall-apart tender as it cooks slowly in red wine, beef broth, and herbs. The sauce thickens into a rich gravy that’s perfect over mashed potatoes or polenta. This dish feels restaurant-worthy but couldn’t be easier at home.
Swedish Meatballs
Ok every time I think of Swedish meatballs, I have a confession. I think of Ikea! Who else does?!
In all seriousness though, these meatballs are comfort food at its finest! This Swedish meatball crockpot recipe makes tender meatballs smothered in a creamy, savory sauce. Serve them over egg noodles or mashed potatoes for a cozy dinner that tastes like a hug in a bowl.
Beef Stroganoff
Beef stroganoff is a classic, and the crockpot makes it even better. Chunks of beef cook until tender, mingling with mushrooms, onions, and a creamy sauce. This stroganoff recipe crockpot style is simple, hearty, and perfect with egg noodles.
Apple Butter in the Crockpot
If fall had a flavor, it would be apple butter. Making apple butter in the crockpot fills your home with the sweet, spiced smell of autumn. Apples cook down slowly with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves until they become silky smooth. Spread it on toast, biscuits, or swirl it into oatmeal for the ultimate fall treat.
Mulled Wine
Warm, spiced, and perfect for chilly evenings, mulled wine in the crockpot is a seasonal must. Red wine simmers gently with cinnamon sticks, cloves, citrus, and a touch of honey. It stays warm and inviting, ready for cozy nights by the fire or festive gatherings with friends.
Tips for Crockpot Cooking in Fall
There are different tips for getting dinner ready quicker, especially when it’s a busy weeknight. I’m all about the time saving tips and I’m sure you are too!
Here are some tips to get dinner on the table quicker so there’s more time for eating these wonderful dishes and to have with your family.
- Batch cook and freeze extras — soups and stews reheat beautifully.
- Prep the night before by chopping veggies and measuring spices.
- Adjust liquid if using lots of fresh vegetables (they release water as they cook).
- Use some of the other options on the Crockpot for one pot meals. I love this about the Crockpot. It’s not only simple to use and has so many cook options, but you can use it for one pot meals. The sauté option is golden so I don’t have to dirty any more dishes, pots, and pans than necessary.
